This is actually happening when you allow accessing third-party apps in your Gmail for using extra features like mail merge apps, template apps, or mail tracking apps which are not provided by Gmail. All app takes permission from you to process your need this a system, not scam. So, no doubt to use any apps if they provide good service from many years and well reputed.
